Express yourself!

Do something to express yourself.

I was taking a workshop, and I was working on a project that was a new creative project for me.

I was at the workshop learning how to do aspects of it project.

For the workshop, and we were staying close to the beach.

We’d gone to the workshop one day…the night before I’d had a terrible dream.

Terrible.

My worst nightmare.

I woke up frozen in fear.

I didn’t want to go back to the workshop…

And I didn’t want to move forward on the project.

I wanted to quit.

That morning I decided to go for a walk on the beach.

My husband was along with me and we went for a walk on the beach.

I looked at him and I said, “You know, I’m going to do an interpretive dance about how I’m feeling right now.”

I know, a little weird…not something I do all the time.

However, in that moment it’s what came to me, and there was no one really around, so I exaggerated how I was feeling.

I started with tears in my eyes because I was that terrified about moving forward in this particular creative project.

By the end of the dance, I was laughing.

I was joking around, I was leaping in the air…

and I was ready to go.

I went back to the workshop that day and completed that project.

The key is, express yourself. 

It doesn’t have to be in some weird interpretive dance.

It can be a whole host of different things.

It can be as simple as going and making a meal…cooking.

It could be writing about what it is that you are feeling stuck about, and get that flowing.

It could be a poem. Or a story.

It can be as simple as singing a song really loud in the car…

or screaming really loud in the car.

It doesn’t really matter.

The key is just to feel into how you want to do it in the moment and express yourself, because that will get things moving again.

That will get you back into flow, that will get your creative juices flowing, get all that stuck energy moving and help you build forward momentum.

Then ask yourself, what wants to move through you?

What wants to move through you now?

Express yourself and get it flowing again.

Make it bigger, exaggerate what you’re feeling.

Act like a kid about it, make it bigger, exaggerate it…

that starts to get you to play with it…

to make friends with it…

and make friends with that fear.
